Bafana move up the rankings

BAFANA Bafana became the second-biggest movers in the latest Fifa rankings released yesterday as they moved four places up to No67 in the world.

Bafana had been on a slide, from being ranked No38 a year ago to No71 last month.

The latest rankings show that they have made the biggest climb after Jamaica, who moved five places to occupy No51 on the rankings.

Bafana move up one spot on the African rankings to No 14, as the top seven on the continent remain the same with Ivory Coast still leading.

On the world rankings, Ivory Coast are Africa's top-ranked side at No15 position.

There is one change in the top 10 of the world rankings, with Argentina moving up one spot to overtake Denmark for No9 spot.

Spain remain world leaders, followed by Germany, Uruguay, Netherlands and Portugal to make up the top five places.

The national squad's next fixture will be a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in Rustenburg on June 3. The side is without a win in their last eight matches, having last tasted victory in a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso in August last year.

They have since drawn six and lost two of their previous eight matches.
