'Get us local coach'- Europeans are smothering our flair

And this is not just my view. We are always talking as players and this is how they feel, including the two coaches (Khuse and Khumalo)

KAIZER Chiefs players want a home-grown coach, and the message to the club's management was delivered yesterday by Amakhosi captain Itumeleng Khune.

Khune linked the Amakhosi's declining success to European coaches who have been brought in over the past seven years.

The last of the European coaches was Vladimir Vermezovic, who was sacked three weeks ago following a string of inconsistent results and failing to win the Absa Premiership in his three seasons with the club.

Chiefs have always had foreign coaches in the Premier Soccer League era, among them Muhsin Ertugral, Paul Dolezar, Ernst Middendorp and Kosta Papic.

The last time Chiefs won the league, they had a foreign coach in Romanian Ted Dumitru in 2005.

Now the club is searching for a new coach for next season, with Khune pleading for a South African.

Khune said the club needed a coach with "African flair", something which Chiefs had been lacking before local coaches Donald Khuse and Doctor Khumalo took over from Vermezovic.

Although Chiefs have yet to win a game under the two former Chiefs players - they were beaten in all three games the pair have been in charge - Khune said Khuse and Khumalo have given the team "freedom of expression".

"The African flair was always lacking. A lot of times the European coaches restricted us and wanted us to play this direct football. We were never able to give the fans what they want," said Khune.

"And this is not just my view. We are always talking as players and this is how they feel, including the two coaches (Khuse and Khumalo)."

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper said that Khuse and Khumalo had asked the players to emulate the pair when they were in their prime. Khuse and Khumalo were two of Chiefs' popular midfielders before retiring.

"They were good midfielders in their time and they have brought that back to the team," said Khune. "They want us to also play for the crowd. We have not won yet, but the signs of improvement are there. We have kept opponents in their half in the past three games, but haven't been able to score," he said.

Khumalo is not ready to put his name in the hat for the Amakhosi job. "Talk to me in three weeks. If given a chance, it is not a problem, but it is up to management to make that decision," said Khumalo.

Chiefs, who are sixth on the log, will take on third-placed SuperSport United on Saturday night at Soccer City.

A defeat for Chiefs would end Amakhosi's mathematical chance of winning the league this season, but would build on United's hopes of winning their fourth title in five years.

=======================================================================================

These two clowns are now trying to influence the players to push for them to coach chiefs. this makes one wonder if the problems VV had with the players were not caused by these two.

What improvement? keeping the opposition in their own haff and winning are two different things idiot. you claim you have been given a fre'e role, that is the reason you lose games. you are going to lose your 4th successive game on Saterday.

I don't understand how can Khune blame the coaches when there are so many goal scoring opportunuties that players fail to make use of.These players fail to score goals that even Baby Jake Matlala would have scored and then you blame the coaches.
Khune is afraid of telling the truth..He knows very well the source of the problem at Chiefs is the poor management of hlasela mafutha.Who brought those coaches at Chiefs?
Be careful of what your saying Khune, as these utterances can land you in big trouble of bringing your team into disrepute.
