PSL drops case against Stars

Apr 23, 2012 | Mark Gleeson | 1 comments

THE PSL quietly closed the lid on a contentious year-long disciplinary case against Platinum Stars at the weekend with a brief statement that left more questions than answers.

Platinum Stars were charged with spectator misbehaviour. They were acquitted and the matter was dismissed with costs

Charges against the club that their fans threw objects at linesman Peter Rabophara at a home game in February last year were finally dropped without any explanation from PSL prosecutor Ntietso Mofokeng.

"Platinum Stars were charged with spectator misbehaviour. They were acquitted and the matter was dismissed with costs," she said.

But it has only served to weaken the foundation on which many prosecutions are based - the word of match officials. In this case, the integrity of a senior linesman is at stake as Stars asserted he made up false charges.
