Cosmos lose further ground

JOMO Cosmos wasted a chance to ease their Premiership relegation woes, dropping three points in a 3-1 defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows in KwaMashu on Saturday night.

The visitors dominated most of the game but failed to capitalise, eventually succumbing to their fourth straight league defeat as Arrows struck twice in the dying stages to bag the win.

Cosmos remained rooted at the bottom of the table, while Arrows moved closer to the top half of the standings with four games left.

Dillon Sheppard broke the deadlock when he fired in a left-footed shot from the edge of the area to put the hosts ahead.

Ezenkosi, however, continued to push forward and they were rewarded for their attacking efforts in the 59th minute when a Bamuza Sono cross found Gerson Badenhorst, who hit the back of the net with a header from close range.

With only two minutes left, however, Thanduyise Khuboni put Arrows back in the lead when he scored from the spot after Ofosu Appiah had brought down Russel Mlotshwa.

Collins Mbesuma delivered the final blow in injury time.

l In Rustenburg, Free State Stars beat Platinum Stars 1-0 to increase their tally to 42 points as the Botshabelo outfit's impressive run under coach Steve Komphela continued.
