Fiery Gould could lose his glitter - PSL bad boys cost clubs
MORGAN Gould might be on the shopping list of all of the country's top clubs but the Bafana Bafana centre-back will have to temper his style of play if he is not to become a major liability.
Gould is due to leave SuperSport United at the end of the season.
His two red cards and nine cautions this season have meant he has been suspended five times for his club, leaving them vulnerable without his experience at key junctures in the season.
Gould is set to return to action tomorrow for the match against relegation-threatened Santos in Cape Town, after his latest suspension - another one-match ban for an accumulation of yellow cards.
Gould is one of four players in the Premier Soccer League with two red cards this season - the others are Dillon Sheppard, Platinum Stars defender Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Jan Derks, the Dutch assistant to Mamelodi Sundowns coach Johan Neeskens, who has twice been sent to the stands for his colourful language off the bench.
Gould's tally of nine cautions is bettered only by 10 yellow cards this season for Paulus Masehe of Free State Stars, who has a tough-tackling style in the heart of his team's midfield.
This is across all league and cup matches.
Hard-tackling midfielder Angelo Kerpsuy and Togo international defender Sadate Ouro-Akoriko of Free State Stars join Gould on nine, which equals three separate suspensions.
Collectively, Platinum Stars have picked up the most red cards - six this season - and are also high on the list of teams with yellow cards, with 65 for the 2011-2012 campaign.
That is just one less than the clubs with the most cautions - Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars, according to figures supplied by the PSL.
Both Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows have not had a sending-off all campaign long, while AmaZulu's list of 44 cautions is the best disciplinary record in the PSL.
The weekend's Nedbank Cup ties saw a red card for Rheece Evans of Maritzburg United, ruling him out of tonight's match against Chiefs in Polokwane.
