A touch of Claas from Bafana duo

BAFANA Bafana midfielders Steven Pienaar and Daylon Claasen both struck goals for their respective clubs on Monday, hitting top form in the build-up to the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in June.

Pienaar was once again outstanding for Everton in their 4-0 trouncing of Sunderland, providing the creative spark in midfield and getting on the scoresheet with a beautifully taken goal.

The Bafana skipper picked up the ball on the edge of the area before picking his spot to perfection with his right foot.

He was also involved in the first and fourth goals for the Toffees, who will have to do without him for Saturday's FA Cup semifinal against Liverpool because he is cup-tied, having played for Tottenham Hotspur in the earlier rounds.

Claasen has also been hugely impressive this season for Belgian side Lierse and netted his fifth goal of the campaign in a 2-1 win over Mechelen on Monday.

It is clear that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season for bigger things, having come close to signing for English Premiership side Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window before red tape ended his hopes.

The same applies to Siboniso Gaxa at Lierse, who maintained his consistent performances in the slightly unfamiliar left-back role in the win at Mechelen.

Kagisho Dikgacoi was again on the losing side for Crystal Palace as they went down 2-0 to English Championship leaders Southampton. But game-time is what national coach Pitso Mosimane values most for his overseas exports.
