INSPIRED by the return of Paul Scholes, former Bafana Bafana and Manchester United star midfielder Quinton Fortune still harbours dreams of playing in the big leagues again.

Fortune is keen to revive his career in South Africa, on condition he is approached by one of the clubs in the Premier Soccer League.

The Cape Town-born Fortune is still training with the Red Devils on a regular basis to keep fit. He also serves as one of the club's global ambassadors.

"It was such a great thing to see Scholes coming out of retirement, where he was coaching, to play again. It was such an inspiring moment," said Fortune.

"I still want to play professional soccer, preferably in England because that is where I spent the better part of my life playing soccer.

"If there are offers from other countries, I will consider. That includes South Africa. I was born in Cape Town and I'm proud of my country and the successes of the PSL.

"I was supposed to have joined SuperSport United two seasons ago but there was a communication breakdown with (coach) Gavin Hunt during the negotiations.

"There is no way I can turn down an offer to play in South Africa. If there is an offer from one of the PSL clubs, we will look at it.

"It will be great for me to play in South Africa, considering I left the country at the age of 14 to go to Europe. The PSL is such a big brand in soccer in the world."

Besides United, some of the other European clubs that Fortune played for included Doncaster Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Atletico Madrid.

Armed with 53 Bafana Bafana caps, Fortune, 34, played for Bafana Bafana during the 1998 and the 2002 World Cup finals.
