Easter a busy time for scouts

TALENT scouts are expected to invade Meadowlands over the Easter weekend for the annual Stripsels Kwa Mahlobo Easter Games at Zone 10 sport grounds.

Tournament director Blessing Zwane said they expected 16 clubs to register for the senior division of the tournament that is open to all clubs in South Africa. He said the registration fee is R1200 per club and that the draw would be held at Wanda's Place in Orlando East at 5pm on April 5.

The overall winners will take home R20000, the runners-up R15000 and the semifinalists R5000 each. There will also be individual prizes for the best performers.

Wanda also hosts an equally popular off-season tournament.

"We are excited our two tournaments are growing in leaps and bounds - the support we are getting from the community is incredible. We are talking here of tournaments that have produced the likes of Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Excellent Walaza, Sifiso Vilakazi and Edward Williams."

Clubs interested in participating in this tournament - which starts on April 7 and ends on April 10 - phone Zwane on 076- 150-7787 or Fats Nhlapo on 082-254-7601.

Meanwhile, the fifth Safa Mogale City Mayoral Soccer Tournament will be played from April 6 to 9.

Mogale City municipality special projects manager Eric Ngwana said matches will be played at the Swanieville, Azaadville, Munsieville and Johanna Botha sports grounds.

The tournament will feature a masters and junior division, with a total of 40 teams competing.
