Myeni debut delayed

ORLANDO Pirates have been advised by their medical team to delay ace midfielder Sfiso Myeni's debut for Bucs a little longer.

This rules Myeni out of Saturday's Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs at Soccer City.

Pirates stand-in coach Augusto "Njenje" Palacios said Myeni could only start playing competitively in two weeks' time. This is a major blow for the player known as "Ntsunda", as he desperately wanted to feature in the historic derby.

"We have been advised to allow him to complete the rehabilitation as he only started training with the rest of the team on Monday," Palacios said. "It is the dream of every player to feature in the Soweto derby, but it does not make sense to play in one derby only to retire prematurely.

"There will be many other derbies in future where Sfiso will play without any pressure.

"We want him to be 100% healthy and fit when he finally makes his Pirates debut.

"As for the derby on Saturday, we will be ready for Chiefs. They beat us 2-1 in the first round and we are ready to avenge that defeat," Palacios said.

Pirates will also be without Thulasizwe Mbuyane, Luis Boa Morte and Lucky Lekgwathi on Saturday due to injury.

Meanwhile, tickets for Saturday's derby are sold out, Pirates communications manager Mickey Modise confirmed yesterday.

"All the 90000 tickets have been purchased and we appeal to the supporters to come early to avoid traffic congestion," added Modisane.
