Politicians use cycle tour to say no to doping

SPORT and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula and Western Cape premier Helen Zille put away their political differences and joined hands to raise money for charity at the Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour in Cape Town yesterday.

The duo were part of the celebrities' team that took part in an "I play fair - say no! to doping" campaign to discourage athletes from using banned substances.

Mbalula and company were promoting ethics, fair-play and anti-doping in sport in partnership with the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport and Cycling SA.

The minister was riding a personalised KTM Ultra Sport bicycle, which was inscribed "Minister FA Mbalula" across the handlebars. The 'A' is for April.

"Our message to athletes is don't do drugs," Mbalula said.
