New gym in Mdantsane

SCIENTIFIC training in soccer is vital for the success of any club or national team, said former Bafana Bafana manager Zola "Wa Jima" Dunywa.

"We need to take our players for scientific tests when they are still young to know where they need assistance," he told Sowetan.

"I have been involved in sport for decades. Development is my passion, which is why I was kicked out of the South African Football Association. There is no way South Africa will be able to produce a successful team like the Bafana Bafana Class of 96 if we do not prioritise development.

"Great players are forced to retire at an early age because of ailments or injuries that could have been prevented. It is for that reason that Khaya Majeke and I decided to start a gymnasium known as Fitness Joint in Mdantsane with medical support.

"Scientific tests will be done on our members and athletes so that we can draw up programmes to follow to stay in great shape."
