Man United overcome Spurs

TWO Ashley Young goals helped Manchester United slice Manchester City's lead at the top of the English Premiership to two points with a clinical 3-1 win over third-placed Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Young scored twice at White Hart Lane after Wayne Rooney's 44th-minute header gave United a somewhat fortunate 1-0 at interval.

Substitute Jermain Defoe pulled one back for Spurs in the 87th minute. City recorded a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers through Martio Balotteli and an own goal from Greatar Steinson on Saturday.

In a move that did not come as a surprise, Chelsea have appointed Roberto Di Matteo caretaker coach following the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas. This was after they suffered a 1-0 defeat by West Bromwich Albion through Gareth McAuley's goal. In another match, Arsenal beat Liverpool two nil through Robin van Persie's double strike.
