Coach lauds young side

Excited Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic praised his young side's confidence and clinical 3-0 Premiership win over Moroka Swallows at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

A brace from mercurial winger Mandla Masango and another strike by Lehlohonolo Majoro ensured that Amakhosi maintained their challenge on log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.

"We played much better than we did against (the 1-1 draw on Wednesday) Jomo Cosmos," Vermezovic said.

"This is a young team that is full of confidence, and this is a big step from them."

"Today, we could have lost or we could have destroyed them," said Vermezovic.

His Swallows counterpart Gordon Igesund lambasted his side's poor finishing and defensive frailties.

"I'm disappointed. I felt that we played well but missed many chances," he said. "And you can't afford to do that against a team like Chiefs. They got a result they wanted.

"The first two goals we conceded were very soft."

Substitute Ashley Hartog's clever second-half header helped SuperSport United move back into second place in the premiership table after a 2-1 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows in Umlazi, outside Durban, on Saturday.

Katlego Mashego scored and was sent off for Arrows and Sameehg Doutie was also shown red for United - both dismissals came in the last 10 minutes of this King Zwelithini Stadium clash.

Morgan Gould opened the scoring after just seven minutes, before Mashego equalised 19 minutes later.

Hartog then nodded in off the post just after the hour mark to seal the victory that moved Matsatsantsa back into second place, ahead of Kaizer Chiefs on goal difference, while Arrows drop to 13th.

Santos scored a much needed 3-1 win over Bidvest Wits in their premiership match at Athlone also on Saturday.

Two second half goals, one each from Erwin Isaacs and Tasleem Paulse, earned the Cape side victory.

Wits made it 1-1 in the 50th minute through new -signing Masibusane Zongo, but the teams remained level for just two minutes, as Isaacs put the home side back in the lead. Paulse scored Santos' third in the 85th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

Edward Manqele scored his second goal of the match in the 82nd minute to help Free State Stars secure a 2-1 win over AmaZulu, in their premiership match at Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday.

Stars led from Manqele first's strike in the sixth minute then AmaZulu struck back with an equaliser in the 74th minute.

Manqele would sink the hearts of AmaZulu faithful when he scored his second goalf for the day.
