ORLANDO Pirates want to spread their dominance of the local game to the rest of the continent by winning the Africa Champions League and add a second gold star to their emblem.

Speaking at a media briefing yesterday, Pirates coach Julio Leal did not beat about the bush when he declared Pirates will also successfully defend the league and Nedbank Cup.

The Brazilian said they will deliver on the mandate given to the club by chairman Irvin Khoza of winning their second Champions League title. Pirates start their Champions League campaign with a home match against Angolan kings CRD Libolo at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday at 3pm.

But, Leal said, they will focus on preparations for that match after tomorrow's Absa Premiership match against Black Leopards at Orlando Stadium.

"Now that we have added the Telkom Knockout title to our cabinet and successfully defended the MTN8, we also want to ensure the league and Nedbank Cup titles remain with us.

"Supporters of Pirates are used to bragging by winning titles. We want to assure them that we will work hard to sustain the momentum.

"I have started gathering information about the Angolan club. A friend of mine went to watch them when they played in a tournament in Mozambique in December. "Make no mistake, they are a good side but we will prepare thoroughly for them. I will also be getting two DVDs of their recent matches during the week," Leal said. Despite the departure of Clifford Ngobeni and Lucas Thwala to Golden Arrows and Platinum Stars respectively, Leal is confident Pirates will still do well in the Champions League.

"There is no way the Angolans will trouble us."
