Olympics beckon for Ngamole

COOLBOY Ngamole ran a second Olympic qualifying time in three months when he triumphed in the national marathon championships in George yesterday.

The 34-year-old was the favourite to take home the R50000 first prize when defending champion Lusapho April withdrew.

The North West marathon man was runner-up to April last year and has been in tremendous form.

At the end of November he ran a personal best of 2hr:10min:43sec, finishing sixth in the Valencia Marathon in Spain.

Yesterday he was a bit off that time, but his winning effort of 2:13:18 is well inside the Olympic qualifying time of 2:15:00. He has now twice run a qualifying time for the Games and is a virtual certainty to be one of the three South Africans going to London in July and August.
