Coaches snubbed Mosimane, not Safa
"PSL coaches snub Safa."
Those were the headlines in weekend reports on the South African Football Association technical symposium.
Another story was about the Bafana Bafana Class of '96, saying what a great idea the symposium was.
We need to put things into perspective here and say it like it is or should be.
Was it really Safa that the Premier Soccer League coaches snubbed, or was it the recent utterances of the senior national team's coach that made them stay away?
Methinks it is the latter. And with good reason.
Maybe we should tell you that we were not invited and had thought of gate-crashing the symposium.
We are also stakeholders in this game, in case the powers that be are not aware.
We have ideas and can make sensible input as we always do, albeit that we are regarded as a pain in the the you know where.
A reliable source tells us we were excluded because people are afraid to be brutal and frank when the media is present.
What hogwash!
People who have that problem should not be in leadership positions.
As the old saying goes, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
But, back to the alleged snubbing of the symposium by coaches.
It is worth recalling that after the practice matches between Bafana Bafana and the two Afcon qualifiers Zambia and Ghana, Pitso Mosimane took a swipe at everyone and told us, the media, where to get off.
That was all very well. It comes with the territory and some of us are thick-skinned and can take criticism.
He was even supported by some who believe the media are the coach's real enemies here.
But, at the same press conference, Mosimane also lashed out at local coaches.
He claimed he was the best of the lot and if any of them believed they were better, then they should raise their hands.
No one did.
Neither have we heard from his supporters nor his bosses at Safa on this one.
The silence may mean one of two things: first, that he is or was right, or second that they (coaches) do not want to be seen to be arguing with a fool, lest we fail to notice the difference.
The deafening silence may also mean they are not prepared to have their ideas help raise the profile of a man who undermines them.
How, then, do you think he will be able to appoint a local assistant when he does not see anyone good enough inthis country?
Be that as it may, no one worth his salt would then attend or share ideas with someone who has openly told you that you are inferior.
What would that person learn from you that they do not know already?
That is why we believe that it is not Safa that was snubbed by the coaches, but the national coach Mosimane himself.
We all know that those whom the gods want to destroy, they first make mad. This seems like a classic case of that.
Mosimane must learn to be humble, as his arrogance won't take him anywhere, just as it hasn't taken Bafana Bafana anywhere under his watch.
He still has to justify his R800000 a month salary and we should actually be demanding more from him for that kind of moolah.
As for the Class of '96, the less said about them the better.
Their blind support for anything that Safa or the coach says is not healthy for the game.
They have to stand up and be counted, be frank and brutal, even at the risk of being ostracised.
I always say no one is so blind as to ask which way the wind is blowing when everyone can see the direction of the weathercock.
Let's wake up and smell the coffee and refuse to be dictated to on something we have a right to voice an opinion on.

If I was a Coach, I would also Snub him. Firstly, they failed to qualify and they and then Mosimane wants players for Practice Matches which we did not even win 1 instead a number of players got injured because of those matches.Report Abuse
