Celtic want Mulenga's side of story

BLOEMFONTEIN Celtic are waiting for Clifford Mulenga to explain himself after he was expelled from the Zambian squad at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament under way in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

EXPELLED: Zambia and Bloemfontein Celtic winger Clifford Mulenga

We have heard about what happened, but we don't have the whole story

The Times of Zambia newspaper reported yesterday that Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard had sent the Celtic winger packing because of disciplinary reasons.

"We have heard about what happened, but we don't have the whole story," Celtic chief executive Khumbulani Konco said yesterday.

"We expect our players to behave at all times. However, we don't know the whole story.

"We will wait for Clifford to give us his side of the story and will take it from there once he has explained himself."

The Times of Zambia said the 2007 CAF Young Player of the Year award recipient was sent home in disgrace for an allegedly serious breach of the team's code of conduct. Football Association of Zambia communications manager Erick Mwanza said they supported Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard's decision to dismiss the Celtic player. Mulenga, who has played for the University of Pretoria, BidVest Wits, Thanda Royal Zulu, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Örgryte IS in Sweden, is believed to have broken a team curfew with three other players while at Chipolopolo's hotel in Malabo.

Mwanza told the newspaper that the other three players, who have not been named, were forgiven after they apologised to Renard.

"His colleagues have shown remorse and unreservedly apologised. They were forgiven by the coach," Mwanza said.

He need to explain his story though my personal opinion is that Celtics has no jurisdiction whatsoever in this matter as it happened outside the authorities of any SA rules and regulations especially that of Celtics.
