FORMER Bloemfontein Celtic striker Bethuel "Pro" Mohlakane died after he collapsed at the gate of a house in Phahameng, Mangaung, yesterday.

He was suffering from a long illness.

Mohlakane played for amateur sides Blue Birds and Mangaung United before he joined Celtic in the professional ranks.

Family spokesman Tebogo Mohlakane confirmed his death. "The family will decide this week on the date for the funeral but we are busy making arrangements," he said.

In paying tribute to Mohlakane, former Celtic boss Petrus Molemela said: "Mohlakane was an ace dribbler. We were able to beat many teams after signing him. He was a complete player who was loved by fans and respected by opponents. My condolences to the Mohlakane family."

Mohlakane, Ace Mgedeza and Willington Wesi were three players from Free State who constituted the national team (Black Eleven) during apartheid era.

He played alongside legends like Percy "Chippa" Moloi and Jomo Sono.
