SOWETO Football Association has roped legends to help fine-tune youngsters participating in a tournament in honour of the late Solomon "Stix" Morewa - Clinix Stix Morewa Soccer Cup.

Featuring 320 clubs from Soweto, the tournament kicked off at various suburbs of Soweto yesterday.

SFA president Phil "Chippa" Mogodi said they were impressed by the support from former professional players who volunteered to assist.

"There is no suburb in Soweto that does not have a legend, we are happy they are embracing the tournament through to coaching and motivation.

"We want to see more than five Sowetans in Bafana Bafana at the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

Some of the legends on board are Alfred Gwabeni, Bruce Ramokadi, Linda Buthelezi, Eugene Zwane, Victor Thwala, Mike Ntombela, Ronnie Zondi and Thabang Lebese.

Mogodi also announced that Soweto SAPS has also registered to participate. The tournament is also used to celebrate the contribution of the former Safa president to the development of the game. Morewa died in 2005 after a long illness.

"Bra Stix did a lot to get our soccer admitted international soccer bodies that had banned South Africa under apartheid," continued Mogodi.
