THE newly appointed board of Boxing South Africa will be officially ushered in today.

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula will do the honours in Sandton Johannesburg and the proceedings start at 12.30pm.

The board that Mbalula appointed last week comprises chairperson Ngconde Balfour, Peter Ngatane, Ntambi Ravele, Dumile Mateza, Nontsantsa Lebaka, Thabani Khumalo and Mandla Ntlanganiso. Balfour is former Correctional Services minister. Their term of office ends in 2014.

The new board took over from the previous one that was appointed by Makhenkesi Stofile when he was sports minister.

That board finished its term with only four members - Ngatane as chairperson, Archie Jonas, Sakhiwo Sodo, Andile Sdinile and Solly Selebi - after a number of resignations.

Mbalula's spokesperson Paena Kgalane said the minister will meet the new board after handing over power.

"The main issues that will discussed are sponsorship, broadcasting rights and (the need to) plan their own indaba."
