'Next Afcon is ours' - Serero
HOLLAND-BASED attacking midfielder Thulani "Simply The Best" Serero believes the current Bafana Bafana team will emulate the Class of 1996 by winning the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations title.
"We have a solid team. it's a team of stars who want to enter their names in the history books by helping Bafana Bafana conquer Africa," Serero said.
The Senaoane Gunners graduate is confident Bafana Bafana will beat Niger in their must-win qualifier away next month to qualify for the finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
"We played Niger (and beat them 2-0 in Mbombela in September last year), so we have a clear picture of what to expect," he said.
"It will be a tough one but we will beat them. Our aim is to win this one so that we won't be under pressure in the final qualifier against Sierra Leone here at home.
"We want South Africans to celebrate in the last qualifier so that we can start preparing for the finals. Our plan is to become the second Bafana Bafana team to conquer Africa.
"We also want to see Bafana Bafana qualifying and also winning the title during the 2013 Afcon finals as well as qualify and do well during the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
"Nothing is impossible as long as you set yourself goals and plan properly," said Serero, who is happy with his five-star performance in Bafana Bafana's 3-0 win over Burkina Faso last Wednesday.
Serero said everything is falling into place in Holland, where he has become a big name barely two months after joining Ajax Amsterdam.
Serero, who was identified and developed by Mike "Nanana" Ntombela, made his debut for defending champions Ajax when they beat Heerenveen 5-1.
Serero created two goals.
"This was one of his best performances,"said Ntombela, who is in Holland.

I just want to highlight this point; Bafana Bafana are a great team. I am still not convinced about their mental strength. That is my real negative towards them. I think Nigeria brings fear into their hearts. Well, it is possible that they can win the 2012 ACN, provided they become mentally resilient.Report Abuse
