OJ is fired by Platinum Stars

AS anticipated, Platinum Stars have given Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizela the boot after he caused the management of the club a king-sized headache with his disciplinary problems last season.

Mabizela has been at loggerheads with the club for a while now. He also appeared before the Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee for insinuating that a referee had been bribed and for nearly getting into a brawl with a supporter after Stars' Nedbank Cup loss to Vasco da Gama.

A source at the club last night confirmed that "we are not going to keep him".

The former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates skipper could not be reached for comment last night.

While Stars chief executive Jason Raine would not be drawn into confirming Mabizela's expulsion, he confirmed that they had released George Mofokeng, Edward Williams, Kagiso Senamela and Mamadimo Masenya.

It was also established yesterday that SuperSport United are courting Amajita attacking midfielder Nduduzi Nyanda, who was loaned to Stars by Orlando Pirates.

In another development, BidVest Wits have signed Moroka Swallows striker Bradley Ritson on a three-season contract. The Students also gave defender Derrick Spencer a permanent deal after he impressed coach Roger de Sa in his loan spell from Dikwena.

Wits co-director George Mogotsi said: "We are delighted to have signed Bradley as part of our plans to assemble a formidable side. Bradley is an aggressive striker that we strongly believe will add value in the team.

"We are also happy that Derrick will still be part of us after signing a three-year deal."

Wits have also signed defender Joseph Henyekane from relegated Mpumalanga Black Aces and are looking for a replacement for central defender and former captain Tefu Mashamaite, who joined Kaizer Chiefs.
