Moshoeu now an ambassador
FORMER Bafana Bafana star midfielder John "Shoes" Moshoeu has been roped in as an ambassador of the SAB Under-21 Regional League.
The provincial play-offs of this Safa-administered league will be at Seshego Stadium in Limpopo tomorrow and Sunday.
The event will decide the Limpopo regional champions to be promoted to the Vodacom League in the province next season.
Regional winners from Vhembe, Waterberg, Sekhukhune, Capricorn and Mopani will compete in the play-offs.
At the end of this weekend's play-offs, a provincial team to represent Limpopo at the national championships in Johannesburg from June 20 to 25 will also be announced.
Moshoeu is part of the team travelling up north for the play-offs where he will also conduct coaching clinics and give motivational talks to the participants.
Also going to Seshego, a township that has produced the likes of Trott Moloto, Harris Choeu, William Makhura, Masilo Modubi and Gerald Raphahlela, is legendary referee Sylvester Ndaba.
Ndaba, who is also a Safa technical instructor and works for SAB as a national corporate social investment specialist, will interact with up-and-coming referees.
Spectators stand to win fantastic prizes during the games and will be entertained by local singers and musical groups.
The Regional League has been nurturing talent for more than a decade and providing opportunities for players to represent the country.
Some of them have been recruited by Absa Premiership and National First Division clubs and their development programmes.
Acting Safa chief executive officer Pinky Lehoko said the Regional League plays a vital role in preparing players for professional football.
Some of the Regional League products include Andile Jali, Thulasizwe Mbuyane, Happy Jele, Sandile Ndlovu, George Lebese, Innocent Mdledle, the late Gift Leremi, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Abednigo Netshodwe, Lucky Lekgwathi and Lucas Thwala.

He desrves it. It could be appreciated if more and more former players who distinguished themselves locally and internationally in foot ball are given meaningfull roles by SAFA to plough back thier knowledge and skill into the communities.Shoes had a very impresive career in soccer and his life out of soccer has very little dents.
