ADVOCATE Ishmael Semenya SC has been given the responsibility of cleaning up the mess at Cricket South Africa.

He will put together a task team that will include forensic auditors, in line with a decision of the CSA board meeting last Wednesday.

The Semenya Commission will also investigate the alleged disappearance of R68 million as presented by CSA president Mtutuzeli Nyoka in court last month.

Nyoka went to the courts to have his dismissal by CSA nullified and his wish was granted, resulting in the board reinstating him as president.

The problem between Nyoka and CSA started two months ago after he wanted a probe into the awarding of R4,7 million bonuses to staff, including chief executive Gerald Majola.

Senior CSA staff were awarded bonuses for the Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition and Champions Trophy hosted by South Africa in 2009.

Instead of supporting Nyoka, the board decided to pass a motion of no confidence in his leadership, which has since been declared null and void.

Nyoka and Majola have since smoked the peace pipe and agreed to work together for the sake of the sport's growth. Sowetan has learnt that some CSA board members and staff are unhappy to be working with Nyoka again.

Mbalula could not be reached for comment but his media officer Paena Galane said: "The minister is happy with the progress made in cricket. CSA board members have heeded his call to meet with Dr Nyoka and reinstate him."
