Corinthians eager to sign Downs' Mose and Masuku

TOP Brazilian soccer side Corinthians have put two Mamelodi Sundowns development players on their radar for 2011.

Sowetan has reliably learnt that Corinthians want to sign central defender Jabulane Masuku and midfielder Siyabulela Mose, who are playing for Sundowns' Under-17 side.

The duo, who are both from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni, impressed Corinthians at the inaugural Future Champions tournament in Brazil earlier this month.

Coached by prominent development coach Floyd Mogale, Sundowns' U-17 side finished fourth in the tournament in Brazil.

Twelve clubs, including Barcelona of Spain, DC United of the US, Everton of England, Paris St Germain of France, Club America of Mexico and Atletico Peñarol of Uruguay took part.

"It is true that some of our youngsters impressed the technical staff of Corinthians in Brazil," said Mogale yesterday.

"Corinthians wanted to sign them on the spot but I made it clear that the players belong to the club. I then gave them the contact details of our boss, Kenneth Makhanya. I have not followed the matter up because we have closed for the festive season holidays. Even the coach of DC United, Roberto da Silva, was impressed with our players.

"The tournament in Brazil was an eye-opener for many of our players, especially those who have never been exposed to international football. It is good to expose our players to international football at an early age as this will help them when they play for the national teams."

Makhanya and Sundowns' communications manger Alex Shakoane could not be reached for comment yesterday.
