Semenya ploughs back to community

REIGNING world 800m champion Caster Semenya is ploughing back into the community.

She has organised a training camp at the University of Pretoria to help amateur and professional athletes prepare for the 2011 season.

The Caster Semenya Summer Training Camp is taking place at the High Performance Centre under the watchful eye of her coach Michael "Sponge" Seme.

Seme, who unearthed and developed another top athlete, Poppy Mlambo, is an IAAF-accredited coach who specialises in both road running and track events.

Seme said: "We started with the camp on December 1 with a total of 69 athletes in attendance, we are dealing with everything in relation to the techniques of athletics."

Athletes attending are from various provinces including Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Free State, North West and Mpumalanga.

Besides Semenya, the other big-name athletes participating in the programme are World Student Games 10000m gold medalist Sibabalwe Mzazi and rising star Thozamile April.
