Aces secure Mbombela's future

Nov 23, 2010 | Ramatsiyi Moholoa | 8 comments

MBOMBELA municipality mayor Lassy Chiwayo has described the use of Mbombela Stadium by Mpumalanga Black Aces as one of the 2010 World Cup legacy projects.

AmaZayoni have decided to play all their high-profile matches at the iconic stadium, which was used as one of the venues for the World Cup. Aces are following in the footsteps of Bidvest Wits, who played a match at Mbombela two weeks ago, in which they beat Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0.

Besides playing against Sundowns in Mbombela on March 2 next year, Aces will also host Kaizer Chiefs (December 22), Bloemfontein Celtic (January 14), Orlando Pirates (February 6) and Moroka Swallows (May 21). "We are excited that Aces are on board. We've been negotiating with them for almost a year to use Mbombela Stadium for their home matches," Chiwayo said.

"Aces are our only provincial soccer team playing in the Premiership, so it is only proper for them to use the stadium.

"Like eThekwini, Johannesburg and Tshwane, we want to make Mbombela one of the preferred venues for high-profile soccer matches. Having high-profile events will also help promote the profile of Mbombela. There is no way Mbombela Stadium will be a white elephant.

"I always tell the people when they come to Mpumalanga that Mbombela will never be a white elephant because it is carried by 18 orange giraffes," Chiwayo quipped.

WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG TO TAKE SUCH A SIMPLE DECISION, IT TOOK WITS TO DECEND FROM GAUTENG TO USE OUR STADIUM WHILE ACES A LOCAL TEAM WAS BUSY BRAGGING ABOUT HOW THE PUMA WAS CONVINIENT TO THEM FORGETTING THAT MPU COMPRISES OF THE LOWVELD AND THE HIGHVELD THEREBY DEPRIVING THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE IN MPU THE OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT THEIR TEAM OF CHOICE. WE THE PEOPLE OF MBOMBELA, WILL GO TO THE STADIUM NOT TO SUPPORT ACES BUT THEIR OPPORNENTS AND TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STADIUM DOES NOT BECOME A BLUE ELEPHANT. ACES ISIQHOMELE KAKHULU MANJE IBONE I-SUPPORT YE-WITS THEY ALSO WANT A PIECE OF THAT CAKE, THEY WILL GET THEIR SHARE BUT THEY WILL NOT GET THE POINTS WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT, THAT WON'T HAPPEN. NIYAZITHSELA(ACES)!

Tommy u are being emotional about the whole thing, try en control ur emotion en face the facts. These issue was about contracts, conditions an term something which u seems to ignore. it is not about Aces coping what wits has done en for u to support all teams plying agaist Aces is more of u failing to move forward. y cant u appreciate the decision taken en enjoy soccer than to lament. if u know the behind scene of y Aces hasistated at least i would understand u. OBVIOUSLY R 250 000.00 was going to be difficult 4 Aces 2 rent that stadiam, but the recent agreement is good.

I am a Witbanker, Puma Rugby Staduim has not been good 2 us coz these racist Afrikaner Pumas Rugby Team neva approved of Aces playin there, hence results are BAD, Im partly Okay with Mbombela Stadium even though its very very far 4rm Witbank, atleast its in Mpumalanga, can Aces Management pls renovate ACKERVILLE STADIUM (Emalahleni) coz dats where Aces survived relegation & besides, Aces have a great record at Ackerville. WITBANK IS THE PLACE TO BE. 4rm Mavundla Bongs Snaar
