Mlilo promises to do demolition job on 'Time Bomb'

PHILLIP "Time Bomb" Ndou will be destroyed beyond recognition on Saturday night, warns Bhekimpilo "Bomb Defuser" Mlilo yesterday.

The Zimbabwean, whose surname means fire, issued this stern warning to Ndou at a media briefing in Johannesburg yesterday.

The fight will be presented by Branco Sports Productions and will form part of the tournament at North West University that is dubbed "Redemption at Mafikeng".

"I will beat Phillip so bad that his own family will not recognise him," warned Mlilo, a capable fighter who has shown his ability here, though luck seemed to have deserted him. Mlilo was trained by John Whitehead before the fighter's father, Ambrose Mlilo, joined his son here.

Mlilo is a novice of only eight fights - five wins (5 KOs) and three defeats. He will fight the vastly experienced Ndou at catchweight 69kg over eight rounds.

Mlilo, 25, added: "King Solomon said in one of his proverbs that it is better to fear a living dog than a dead lion. I am a dog with a big bark and a huge bite."

His bold statement did not only impress the journalists who attended the briefing at SABC headquarters in Auckland Park, but also promoter Branco Milenkovic, who promised Mlilo more fights under his banner.

Ndou, 33, the charismatic fighter who is trained by Nick Durandt, was not ruffled by Mlilo's threats.

The South African smiled throughout the proceedings.

"I like this boy," said Ndou calmly. "He is a promising boxer and this tells you about will happen inside the ring on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Vus'Umuzi Malinga and Michael Domingo from the Philippines have promised to give their all in their 12-rounder for the IBF's bantamweight No 1 spot.

This main bout of the Milenkovic bill will be beamed live on Blow by Blow from 9.30pm. In another undercard fight Isaac "The Angel" Hlatshwayo will face Nkululeko "Bulldog" Mhlongo over eight rounds in the welterweight class.

Other fights (over eight rounds) are:

Silence "Real Deal" Mabuza vs Lwazi Mzolisi; Jeffrey Mathebula vs Siviwe Hasheni; Oscar Chauke vs Sabelo Nokhele; Evans Mbamba vs Michael Ramabeletsa and Jackson Chauke vs Xolani Lekhuleni.

Tickets are available at Shoprite-Checkers stores and Computicket outlets countrywide at R50 each.
