Classic rivalry on boil

Sep 10, 2010 | Mogomotsi Selebi - selebim@sowetan.co.za | 45 comments

EXPECT goals, goals and more goals at Soccer City in the first leg of the MTN8 semifinal tie tomorrow night.

So says in-form Orlando Pirates midfielder Isaac Chansa and his Kaizer Chiefs counterpart, Abia Nale. Chansa and Nale are the playing heartbeat of their clubs and they need to pull off a pedigreed display of discipline and dynamism if they harbour hopes of steering their sides to MTN8 glory.

The two traditional rivals from the country's historic and imposing township will also meet at the same swanky venue for the second leg of the prestigious yearly event on September 26.

While acknowledging the importance of keeping a close eye on Chiefs' attackers, Chansa said their aim was to finish off Amakhosi tomorrow so that the second leg becomes a formality.

"We must make sure we don't concede on Saturday because the away-goal rule will apply if we are tied on goals," Chansa said. "We must make sure we score a lot of goals in the first round because we are the home team and want to do well in this competition."

A Buccaneer through and through, it must have hurt Chansa to concede that he has been impressed with their rivals this season.

"I have seen them play and I must say they play really well. They play very good football and they have good players like (Knowledge) Musona. But we are going to focus on the whole team, not individual players," the Zambian said.

Not to be outdone by Chansa, Nale promised goals galore in the match.

Nale poses a threat to Pirates since he used to play for the Buccaneers' juniors and said he would like to put one over on them.

"I would like to score against them because I was with them for a long time. We realise that people will pay money to come watch us and we must make sure we entertain them by scoring goals," Nale said.

"Not all of us are skilful, but we can all score goals and that's what we'll try to do.

"We know that it's vital that we go into the second match leading."

Tomorrow's match kicks off at 8.15pm.

There won't be any goals.it's gonna be a boring 0-0 draw.if one scores they won't score more than a goal each.the results are predictable i wouldn't even mind if i miss the game

year in and year out we always get the same threats from Orlando Pirates and they never deliver and i dont see anything different with their current team, Kaizer Chiefs will always be the team to beat when it comes to cup matches and Pirates know this for real and they gonna get a hiding from Chiefs, am Sundowns supporter and after watching Pirates playing Free State Stars midweek am convinced that Chiefs is going to skin them alive cos they dont have composure in front of the goals and it happens to everyone wearing that black and white jersey irrespective of your form...

Boring draw yet again, matters not that its a cup game, @Dayzer, I agree with you a game without goals bores the hell out of me. What's the point of playing a game if you don't wanna win and how do you win games if you don't score goals....??
