Cosmos star dies in accident
WHILE the soccer fraternity is still getting to terms with the death of Oscar Ntwagae, another footballer has died in a car accident.
Jomo Cosmos defender Godfrey Mahlangu, 28, died in the early hours of Sunday after his car overturned. His aunt Jane Mahlangu yesterday told Sowetan the family were still in the dark about what exactly led to Mahlangu's death.
"All we know is that he died at the scene and that he was with his girlfriend Zodwa. She is in hospital in a bad condition but we are all hopeful that she will pull through and shed light on what happened," the aunt said.
Cosmos boss Jomo Sono remembered Mahlangu, who joined Ezenkosi in 2005, as a reserved player who liked keeping to himself.
"His last game for us was against Yebo Yes, the Orlando Pirates development team, two weeks ago. One thing about him was that he was a very quiet boy who liked keeping to himself. I was really shocked to hear of his death and I would like to send my deepest condolences to his family and friends," Sono said.
With these two players having died in car accidents, one can't help but hope that the myth that well-known people die in threes does not happen, as a death of another footballer would just be too devastating.
