Family and community mourn hero Ntwagae

THE death of Oscar "Oskido" Ntwagae has badly affected Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.

This has occurred despite his having long cut ties with the Brazilians.

Club communications manager Alex "Goldfingers" Shakoane and Walter Kutumela were close to tears during their visit to the fallen hero's family in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, yesterday.

Shakoane said though the former Bafana Bafana defender had left Downs to join Platinum Stars, they still regarded him as their son.

"His death is a loss to both the community and country at large. We, as Mamelodi Sundowns, send our deepest condolences to Oscar's family. We'll miss him," he said.

The family said it took them 24 hours to find out that their beloved 33-year-old son had passed away. His younger brother Ndumiso, 23, said: "I received a call from Bra Joe, who works for Moroka Swallows. He told me what happened. I didn't believe it at first.

"Thinking about it now, a lot of things are a bit strange. I last saw Oscar on Thursday," he said.

"There was something on his face that said he was not OK. He just seemed down". The family said they have been getting support from Ntwagae's friends such as Benson Mhlongo and Lungisani Ndlela.

Meanwhile, MEC for sports in Gauteng Nelisiwe Moerane described Ntwagae's death as a sad loss.

"Oscar's name and dedication to soccer will not be forgotten."
