Bantwana gear up for World Cup

THE South African Under-17 women's soccer team has set up a training camp in Pretoria, starting tomorrow, as part of their 2010 World Cup preparations.

Bantwana, Nigeria and Ghana are the three African teams that have qualified for the tournament in Trinidad and Tobago in September.

Bantwana coach Solly Luvhengo said they will play a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago on September 2, after friendlies against England in London on August 17 and 19.

Bantwana will be in England for a training camp from August 14 to 19, said Luvhengo, who is assisted by Joseph Mkhonza.

"We usually take 18 players along for the qualifiers, but Fifa require us to select a team of 21 players for the World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago," Luvhengo said.

"We need three new players to beef up the team. Our aim is to take a razor-sharp team that will make South Africa proud in Trinidad and Tobago.

"England are always a force to be reckoned with and were fourth in the last instalment of this tournament, which was won by North Korea in New Zealand two years ago," he said.
