SuperSport United land top duo

MULTIPLE Absa Premiership champions SuperSport United, who have just signed Bradley Carnell and Kermit Erasmus, will be hoping that the 2010 Fifa World Cup euphoria will be transferred to the local game, starting this weekend.

United will be in action this weekend when they kick off their 2010 Africa Confederation Cup campaign with a home match against Moroccan giants FUS Rabat at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday at 8pm.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori and Rabat qualified for this tournament after bombing out of the lucrative African Champions League in May.

Speaking after signing Carnell and Erasmus, United publicist David "Mazolman" Skosana said they were going for the kill on Saturday.

"It is so nice that we are back in action a week after the end of the successful 2010 Fifa World Cup where almost all South Africans embraced the tournament.

"The World Cup was a tremendous unifying factor in South Africa and we hope to start seeing more white people coming to the PSL matches," Skosana said.

"It is good that the Springboks are also going to Soweto in August after the successful Super 14 matches that featured the Blue Bulls.

"We represent South Africa in this tournament and hope that the majority of our people across all races will support us.

"Our plan is to have a goal feast on Saturday to make things easier for ourselves in the return match. The bigger picture for us is to qualify for the mini-league stage."

On the acquisition of Carnell and Erasmus, Skosana said: "Kermit is back with us from Holland on a two-year deal and we are happy because he is a graduate of our academy.

"Bradley has also signed a two-year contract and he is is a perfect replacement for Tsietsi Mahoa (who has since moved to Bloemfontein Celtic). We want to build a solid team that will conquer Africa, which is part of our plan to promote the SuperSport brand on the continent."

l As predicted by Sowetan on many occasions, Safa will announce Pitso Mosimane as the new Bafana Bafana head coach this afternoon.
