Ivory Coast make offer to Eriksson

STOCKHOLM - Ivory Coast look set to extend coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's contract despite being eliminated in the group stage at the World Cup, the Swedish national says.

"They were really pleased and I guess that I can stay on if I want to," Eriksson told Swedish broadcaster SVT late yesterday. "If so, it will be for four years until the next World Cup finals."

Eriksson, who is on holiday in western Sweden, said he was thinking about the offer.

"I'll make up my mind in a week or so. I have to do it soon since there are friendlies in August and qualifications for the Africa Cup of Nations in September and October."

Eriksson has also been linked with English Premier League side Fulham, but said he "did not know what Fulham wanted to do". The Swedish national, who has coached England and Mexico as well as sides in Sweden, Portugal, Italy and England, said he had no plans to retire.
