Thanks to all 2010 heroes

HAVE you ever been shocked at having achieved something so successful that you never imagined you could?

HAVE you ever been shocked at having achieved something so successful that you never imagined you could?

This is the kind of feeling I had for the past 31 days of the thrilling, enterprising and glorious 2010 Fifa World Cup in Mzansi.

Doomsayers' ink dried up and they were silenced when almost all the leaders of the world showered South Africa, and Africa in particular, with praises and a plethora of accolades for having delivered a world-class tournament.

My thanks to the people of Mzansi for their overwhelming support and positive contribution in ensuring that the event was a success. The organisers have done superbly well in organising a successful tournament.

The whole country was united in sport and everyone was just immersed in the euphoria of football.

Once again, thanks so much to Fifa boss Sepp Blatter and his troops for believing in Africa and South Africa. Thanks to Danny Jordaan and the LOC for putting up a World Cup that has made the whole nation proud.

Thanks to all the media houses that participated in the tournament in one way or another, especially the SABC for having broken its own record by bringing us live broadcasts of all 64 games. Big ups SABC.

And one cannot forget all the South Africans for having demonstrated their passion, unity, humanity and flair and who attended the games without worrying that the local team had been eliminated very early.

Indeed, football was the winner at the end. Let the spirit of unity in sport persist beyond this tournament.

Kha ri farane ri vhe tshithu tshithihi! U bva zwino u swika nga u sa fheliho. (Let's support each other until the end.)
