DIFFERENCES between private and public schools are:
l In government schools, the teacher-pupil ratio is 32.3 to one, whereas in independent or private schools it is 17.5 to one.
l Only 14percent of independent schools charge fees more than R20000 a year.
l Religious schools are the largest subcategory of independent schools, they make up to 43percent of the sector.
l Out of all the pupils in the country, only three percent attend private schools.
