I MUST congratulate Eric Miyeni for his article, "Even our children are getting too fat" in Sowetan on Monday, July 12.
I was really refreshed by his candidness on the issue of obesity. His boldness in telling the truth about an often overprotected topic in our society was truly admirable.
I too love Lebo, but am also concerned about her weight.
I was, for most of my 36 years, overweight, but about four years ago I took an honest look at myself and made some serious decisions to lose weight. That really worked for me and it has changed my bouncy image.
One of the main reasons for my decision was that I had recently lost an uncle and an aunt. In my opinion, they both died way too early. They were both overweight and I believe this contributed to their untimely demise.
I always admire anybody who is willing to tell the truth and risk the line of fire.
Miyeni's column has also encouraged and fuelled my return to the gym with my nieces and it has also made me more determined to maintain good health.
Congratulations on an interesting column.
