But this has nothing to do with cleanliness because the water is often dirty, and they eat anything, whether it is washed or not.

Some people believe that raccoons wash their food because of their keen sense of touch. They like to investigate objects by feeling them with their front paws, and can investigate moist objects better than dry ones.

They feel, which might look like washing, most of their favourite foods such as frogs and crabs. -
