Walter Mokoena to scout talent

CELEBRATED sports anchor Walter Mokoana, 28, begins a new chapter in his life by launching a career as a professional soccer agent.

Having spent 10 years at the SABC, he says he walks away with no regrets.

Mokoena, who bowed out amid praises and accolades from both fans and colleagues after being SABC1's main anchor during the World Cup, told Sowetan that he had been thinking about leaving the SABC for about three years.

At the moment he manages a pool of talent that includes Mandla Masango and Thabang Rooi of Kaizer Chiefs, Diyo Sibiso of Ajex Cape Town, and Happy Jele of Orlando Pirates among others.

"I have been an agent operating locally for four years. I want to increase my services. I will be based both in Europe and South Africa and I will be scouting South African players for European clubs."

Mokoena has had other business interests including soccer publications called Soccer Arena and Soccer Life.

"I have done everything there is to do at SABC sports. I have nothing more to give. I have to make space for new talent."

He said he had nothing but good things about SABC.
