Intruders shoot homeowner

A MAN was shot in a complex at Honeydew, northwest of Johannesburg, in the early hours of yesterday, paramedics reported.

A MAN was shot in a complex at Honeydew, northwest of Johannesburg, in the early hours of yesterday, paramedics reported.

"The 52-year-old father of the house said that he woke up when there was a noise near the bed. As he opened his eyes he saw four unknown males standing in his room," ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said.

"He then let out a scream which must have given the men a fright. One of them, who was holding a gun, let off a shot, after which it seems they ran away from the scene."

Jackson said the man suffered wounds to the chest and back. He was taken to hospital, where he was in a stable condition.

His wife and two daughters were unharmed.

"The Honeydew SAPS were on the scene to collect evidence for investigation purposes. It also seems that the criminals managed to make off with an unknown number of valuables."

Police spokesperson Captain Lydia Dikolomela confirmed the incident, saying it happened at the Eagle Close complex in During Road in Wilgeheuwel, Honeydew.

Dikolomela said four laptops and two cellphones were stolen after the men gained access to the home through a window in the lounge. - Sapa
