JULIUS Malema must be a happy man, not because he has tickets to the Fifa World Cup final at Soccer City, but because his favourite car brand has revealed its latest storm.
Land Rover announced its intentions with the new Evoque at Range Rover's 40th anniversary in the UK on Wednesday.
The Evoque is based on the LRX concept that was shown at several motor shows around the world in 2008, including the Joburg International Motor Show in November of that year.
According to Land Rover the new car will be sold in 160 countries, including South Africa. But will only start being sold in mid-2011.
The Range Rover coupé will be the smallest and lightest Range Rover ever built, according to its makers. By the look of things the new car will evoke many folk's softer side.
According to Land Rover the Evoque will be as premium and luxurious as the other Range Rovers.
It will be joining the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
The Malema Range Rover club was expected to sign new members as soon as the Evoque reaches our shores.
The manufacturer said it was confident that the Evoque would lure new customers to the brand, people who never considered Range Rover before.
Managing director Phil Popham (global) said in choosing the name for the car his company went with the one that was instantly recognisable through language and cultural boundaries.
"The all-new Range Rover Evoque marks a bold evolution in Range Rover design, providing customers with a desirable, premium and compact car-like SUV," he said.
"In 2008 we introduced the LRX concept car and after the positive reception worldwide, the natural step was to turn the LRX concept car into a reality."
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director, said: "We wanted to show the world that we have stayed true to our word and delivered a car that completely represents the spirit of the LRX concept.
He said the Evoque was innovative, different, cosmopolitan and sophisticated.
Now we just have to wait for 2011 for the new kid to arrive. Juju, here is another one for you and I think you are going to love it.
