Caster Semenya was born on January 7 1991 in GaMasehlong near Polokwane, in Limpopo.

She started competing as an athlete at the age of 14 after having been disqualified from girlie football for "being too rough".

In August 2009 Semenya won the 800m women's race in Berlin, Germany.

Breaking the record in the 800m by four seconds, and improving her own time by an amazing 9seconds, brought about questions regarding her gender.

Semenya has been off the tracks for almost a year.

Semenya is doing the second year of a sports science degree at the University of Pretoria.

The IAAF cleared her to run as a woman yesterday.
