Give people jobs, not social grants

IT IS really scary that there are more people on social grants than there are people working.

IT IS really scary that there are more people on social grants than there are people working.

This is unsustainable. Where would the money come from if everyone depended on welfare?

We all, particularly school- girls, need to adjust our attitudes about social grants. Social grants should only be for the elderly and those incapable of helping themselves.

Too many girls are getting pregnant and ruining their lives for the paltry grant that a baby brings in. There are also too many people who make themselves sick to benefit from a disability grant. Neither is a solution to unemployment.

We need access to education and employment. We should also think about reward systems to get our people off welfare such as rewarding a girl with a grant for getting straight A's in matric instead of having a baby.

How about providing equipment and seeds to people who want to start a food garden while they are off work because of HIV?

These are two ideas. Other people might have more.
