REIGNING world 800m king Mbulaeni "The Bullet" Mulaudzi has set his sights on adding the African Senior Track and Field Championships gold medal to his collection.

Mulaudzi made his intentions for the championships in Kenya later this month clear after winning the 800m event at a meeting in Spain on Friday. He finished in a time of 45,01 seconds.

"My preparations for the African Track and Field Championships are going accordingly and I'm in good shape," Mulaudzi said. "I have been doing pretty well in Europe and this really augurs well for my plans to win a gold medal in Kenya.

Most of the guys I competed with in Europe will also be in Kenya and I know what will be expected of me in Kenya.

"We need to do well as South Africa at the international stage because we have talented athletes who are determined to make the country proud.

"The best performers in Kenya will represent Africa at the World Cup in Athletics in Croatia on September 4 and 5, so I also want to be there."

The athletics governing body in Africa will use the championships in Kenya to select a team to represent the continent in Croatia.

Mulaudzi said he was also using the ongoing international competitions to prepare for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
