CAPE Town is gearing up for an estimated 500000 fans to hit the city centre when the Netherlands take on Uruguay in the World Cup semifinal tomorrow.
When Germany played Argentina in the quarterfinal on Saturday a record 300000 people descended on the city centre, City of Cape Town spokesperson Pieter Cronjé said.
While a capacity crowd of more than 64000 watched the game at the Cape Town Stadium, 80000 others put on their walking shoes and joined the fan walk from the central city to the stadium just to feel the World Cup buzz.
"Cape Town's tally for people through its public viewing facilities now stands at 1,4 million," Cronjé said.
Charlize Theron, Mick Jagger, Leonardo di Caprio and star of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy Orlando Bloom - who watched Saturday's game - are expected to take their seats at the stadium tomorrow.
The Hollywood stars are also likely to be joined in the VIP suite for tomorrow's game by Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, and possibly Paris Hilton, who narrowly escaped being prosecuted for smoking marijuana at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last week after her best friend Jennifer Rovero took the blame.
Meanwhile, the city has warned fans attending the mega concert in the city centre fan park to arrive at least three hours early.
