Boks set for Soccer City debut

THOUGH no one is admitting as much, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that the upcoming Tri-Nations rugby match between New Zealand and South Africa will be played at Soccer City.

THOUGH no one is admitting as much, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that the upcoming Tri-Nations rugby match between New Zealand and South Africa will be played at Soccer City.

Speculation has been rife for weeks that the match will be moved from Ellis Park to the home of South African soccer.

The Bulls played their Super 14 semifinal and final matches against the Crusaders and Stormers at Orlando Stadium in May.

A press statement sent out last night advising of a "major Test match announcement" next Wednesday points to all roads leading to Soccer City on August 21.

"We would love to have a match of this magnitude at Soccer City," Jacques Grobbelaar, chairperson of Stadium Management SA, which runs Soccer City, told Sowetan yesterday.

"We have had informal talks with the Lions Rugby Union. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but we are positive."
