Young Lions maul Blue Bulls

THE Golden Lions bounced back when they beat bitter rivals the Blue Bulls in a Coca-Cola Under-18 Craven Week game in Welkom yesterday.

The Lions were tamed 20-3 by defending champions Western Province in the opening match on Monday.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Lions head coach Golie Gouws commended his charges for a job well done against the Bulls.

"The boys had composure on the day and were brilliant at the breakdowns," said the excited Gouws.

"I am quite satisfied the players have set the record straight against neighbours, who are always troublesome."

Earlier in the day, Limpopo Blue Bulls gave Border Country Districts a free rugby lesson when they hammered them 53-0. The Limpopo side played like a well-oiled machine and had their opponents in all sorts of trouble.

Eastern Province Country Districts registered a convincing 27-18 win over the Namibians in a thrilling encounter.
