POLICE are investigating the killing of a man whose bullet-riddled body was found yesterday next to a bucket of traditional muthi, a dead chicken and a sheep's head.
Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said: "Our members were called to Engonyameni outside Umlazi, where the body of a man was found lying next to very strange things."
It was suspected that the killing was muthi-related, he said.
"A bucket of muthi, dead chicken, a sheep's head, two candles and a live black chicken were found next to the body. The man was identified as Theophelus Bongani Magoso, aged 45. This makes us suspect that this incident is muthi-related.
"It looked as if the people who killed him were practicing witchcraft, though we can't be 100percent sure about that. The man also had gunshot wounds."
His body was discovered by people on their way to work. They informed their traditional leader who called the police, Mdunge said.
The body was found in a valley next to a gravel road. No one had been arrested in connection with the killing, Mdunge said. - Sapa and Canaan Mdletshe
