TOURISTS and World Cup fans are in for another treat apart from football this week.

TOURISTS and World Cup fans are in for another treat apart from football this week.

The Zibondiwe Traditional Music and Dance Festival currently on in Newtown, Johannesburg, offers everything about South African culture.

The festival, which seeks to inspire and invigorate culture vultures by highlighting the African cultural experience, is on until July 4.

Zibondiwe showcases the Bapedi, AmaZulu, Xitsonga, Tshivenda and Batswana cultures. Locals and international tourists can enjoy the cultural dances from 10am until 4pm, while soccer takes a break.

This vibrant festival has been made possible with the support of the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.

Benjamin Mfaba, spokesperson of African Cultural Music and Dance Association, says the eventis aimed at uplifting and preserving African indigenous musical heritage.

"Our aim with this event is to deepen cultural integration and ensure that as Africans and people of the world, we embrace one another, regardless of nationality, race and religion.

Mfaba says: "All South Africans who pride themselves in their roots shouldn't miss this extravaganza. This open event is a family affair and is free to the general public."

He says the festival showcases our rich, dynamic and unique musical heritage. Mfaba also says the festival is staged in Gauteng and in Johannesburg in particular because it is the home of a potpourri of cultures and lifestyles.

He says: "Zibondiwe seeks to showcase and celebrate the multi-cultures of our beautiful province and country and the hospitality and ubuntu of our people.

"The festival offers the uniqueness that is not often displayed at public platforms. This event is significant for visitors and for us too."
