Shot man walks 5km to get help

A 36-YEAR-OLD man walked for 5km after being shot and hijacked on Saturday evening.

A 36-YEAR-OLD man walked for 5km after being shot and hijacked on Saturday evening.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the man was found lying outside a house in Pietermaritzburg.

"The man had sustained a single gunshot wound to his abdomen. Advanced life support intervention was performed on the patient before he was taken to hospital.

"It is believed that the man was hijacked and shot on the R56," Banks said.

"He had walked about 5km to look for help before collapsing outside a house in White Road."

In a separate incident, a head-on collision involving two cars on Saturday evening on Manning Road in Pietermaritzburg left two people slightly injured. One driver was trapped in his car.

"Paramedics found both vehicles in the middle of the road," Banks said.

"The trapped driver was in a serious condition and needed advanced life support intervention.

"The fire department used specialised equipment and the Jaws of Life to extricate the man from the car.

"The other two people had sustained minor lacerations and abrasions. All three patients were transported to Northdale Hospital," he said.
